Ticking Hands

Art by Paul Cezanne, 1869

To run barren miles amid the lines
Of multiple ticking hands
Seconds to minutes to absolute hours
For time passes to a foreign land
And the days are but numbers
Those empty numbers
In a changing calendar window
Tomorrow and today have become a coin
As yesterday was the son who to them was born
