The Assembled Tulips

Art by Ambrosius Bosschaert, c.1619

How often do assembled Tulips;
Placed in a vase as sealed lips
Water their roots with the tears they cry
How often do they
Frown over the inflicted grips
That plucked them harshly by the hips
Save the lover, boy!
And bring back your Helen from Troy
And give her the Tulips as she sips
The wine while your lips on hers
And let the vase live in divine;
For life will not from the vase slip
And have us kept until your Valentine
